About the Role:

Eastvantage needs a Senior Data Scientist to help us with our analytics and our storytelling. Interpreting our data doesn’t merely require understanding of various advanced statistical concepts, it also requires an understanding of people and how to visualize behaviors, trends and patterns.

As a senior member of our growing data team, you must be comfortable communicating, prioritizing and managing all aspects of data analysis and science to lead and advance our data science initiatives. In this role, you will work at the forefront of machine learning and analytics, designing and deploying data-driven solutions that drive our business forward.

You will be responsible for developing predictive models, enhancing our ML infrastructure, and providing strategic insights to key stakeholders. This position requires advanced expertise in machine learning, a strong foundation in AWS and Python, and the ability to lead complex projects from ideation to deployment. The ideal candidate’s favorite words should be learning, data, scale, and agility.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy advanced machine learning models to solve complex business problems across various domains, such as predictive analytics, personalization, anomaly detection, etc.
  • Lead the end-to-end model lifecycle, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Use SageMaker and other AWS ML services to operationalize models, ensuring scalability, performance, and monitoring in production.
  • Implement and enhance the ML infrastructure, including model pipelines, monitoring, and automated retraining processes.

Advanced Analytics and Statistical Modelling

  • Perform exploratory data analysis (EDA) and develop statistical models to uncover insights and patterns in large datasets.
  • Conduct hypothesis testing, A/B testing, and other statistical analyses to drive data-informed decision-making across the organization.
  • Deliver actionable insights through data storytelling and visualization tools to communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.

Data Strategy and Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and business teams to understand data requirements, ensuring data availability, quality, and relevance for analytical use.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to understand business objectives, translating them into data science projects and actionable insights that support company goals.
  • Play a key role in defining the data science roadmap, aligning with broader business and technical strategies.

Required skills

  • Advanced Machine Learning Expertise: Strong proficiency in building and deploying machine learning models, with experience in a variety of ML techniques (e.g., supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, time series analysis).
  • Programming: Expert-level proficiency in Python and libraries such as Panda’s and XG Boost.
  • Experience with programming languages such as R and SQL would be plus.
  • Have strong database design and coding skills.
  • Experience in database interrogation and analysis techniques and tools.
  • Experience in database preparation and modelling using AWS Sage maker or any other machine learning tool.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Experience with AWS ML tools, including SageMaker and Glue.
  • Data Visualization: Proficiency in data visualization tools and libraries to communicate complex insights effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills to explain your work to people who don’t understand the mechanics behind data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective listening skills to understand the requirements of the business.
  • Drive and the resilience to try new ideas if the first one doesn’t work – you’ll be expected to work with minimal supervision, so it’s important that you are able to motivate yourself.
  • Planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to deliver under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Teamworking skills and a collaborative approach to sharing ideas and finding solutions.
